The Apollo Development Association (ADA)
was born out of the need for a development organisation in Victoria
West. It was established in 1998 and registered as a Section 21 Company
and Non-Profit Organisation in 2001. The ADA is managed by a board
that sets policy, appoint the Senior Managers and Chief Executive Officer,
approves the Annual Business Plan and draws up the Strategic Plan.
The organisation became involved in the following activities
during its lifespan:
- 2001:
Start of the first Apollo Film Festival in Victoria West.
- 2002 – 2003: Participated in the Local Employment and Economic Development
(LEED) Programme of the International Labour Organisation (ILO)
and Victoria West was selected as one of three towns in South
Africa.
- 2003: Opening of a loveLife Franchise to tackle the HIV/AIDS pandemic
in the area.
- 2004 – 2005: Instrumental in the establishment of the Northern Cape Federation
of Community Art Centres.
- 2006: Participated in the role out and launch of the Mosadi wa Kono
Kono (Divine Women) initiative of the National Department of
Arts and Culture with the launching in De Aar.
- 2006: Participated in the Accelerated Shared Growth Initiative for
South Africa (ASGISA) and served on the Provincial Stakeholders
